Receive the initial instructions and off you go. All you need is your mobile
phone and yourself.
In the “With the eyes of Gandhi” edition one meets the world with the eyes of
the great Indian peacemaker Mahatma Gandhi. By employing non-violent civil
disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence from British rule, and inspired
movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world.
With basis in quotes, life situations and actions of Gandhi, the Adventures invite
on a personal journey and stimulate one’s imagination, thinking and actions.
They open an awareness for “the peacemakers” choice in every moment by
mirroring ones own habits and pre-concepts of relating and interacting with the
world and make one explore the possible conflict and peace in ourselves and
the society we live in. Streets, a bus ride with strangers, the schoolyard or a
party could be the setting for an adventure to unfold.
At times on does the adventure by himself, stimulated by the SMS text to perceive
differently, at times in small groups, responding to instructions for doing
things, and at times in pairs: for example receiving texts for a dialogue on the
phone, to be played out as conversations with one another.
Eventually the adventure is pointing at a re-evaluation of one’s attitudes and
potential for actions.
”A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.” said
Gandhi.
Meet Gandhi in the streets; meet Gandhi in each other, in yourself.
Workshops by hello!earth
Workshops in relation to “With the eyes of Gandhi”:
A: workshops for a creative sharing of the experience of doing the excursion
B: workshops for surfacing ideas and implementation of action inspired by the
excursion
C: workshops to co-write new excursions by youth
Working process and project phases:
Phase 1: For the Moss Peace Seminar 2013
Creating of a basic application: an smart phone application.
It includes: a series of 6 excursions of 10 to 20 min length. They are adapted
to specific sites and conditions in Moss, and tested in a workshop with youth
prior to the seminar.
Phase 2: For the Moss Peace Seminar 2014
A: Developing a workshop format and virtual interface (website) for writing adventures.
Youth contribute to the project, and become the creators of adventures
themselves. A community for “ seeing the world with the eyes of Gandhi”
is established.
B: Developing the format further:
-Adventures of longer duration and interlinking different Adventure Sets with
each other.
-Including an interactive option between participants: participants can directly
communicate/ chat with each other as part of the Adventure.
C: Developing an international format: Adventures based on the idea to relate
to the world through the eyes of Gandhi are made accessible widely and become
the platform for creating and exchanging between youth internationally.
For example can a group of youth from Norway create journeys to be experienced
in the Middle East and vice-versa. Or the adventures can be produced
collectively with groups of youth connected online. Thus becoming a tool for
learning about social and cultural conditions, values, personal experience and
the building of common ground in a global world.
